Liberals promise 90% VAB in five-part family package

Liberalerna has promised to raise Sweden's VAB reimbursement to 90% for the first five days of a child's illness as part of five election pledges released Tuesday.

The package would also restore RUT tax relief for private homework help, expand RUT for people over 70, let pharmacies renew some prescriptions and provide simple care, and include occupational pensions in divorce property division.

For working parents, the VAB pledge would raise a benefit that currently replaces just under 80% of sickness-benefit qualifying income, subject to a cap. Current RUT rules allow a 50% tax reduction on eligible labour costs but exclude homework help beyond a minor part of childcare.

The pension measure could shift money toward a lower-earning spouse. Ordinary occupational pension rights are generally excluded from divorce division, although exceptions exist.

None of this changes current rules. The party announcement gives no cost, tax-deduction cap, prescription list, pension valuation method or start date. Liberalerna would need governing influence after the election, budget funding and legislation. Until then, it is a conditional package, not a benefit families can claim.
