The Social Democrats want climate adaptation incorporated into Sweden's climate-policy framework and regularly evaluated by the Climate Policy Council.

The party is also calling for an emergency summer preparedness plan, an updated national adaptation plan and a National Security Council assessment of how extreme weather could affect food, water, communications and defence.

A further proposal would examine a shared insurance system intended to keep home insurance affordable in areas facing greater flooding or other climate risks.

The party claims government funding reductions have weakened adaptation work at county administrative boards. That allegation comes from the Social Democrats' own announcement, and no government response was included.

These are opposition proposals rather than adopted measures. The announcement did not provide a budget, implementation timetable or precise design for the proposed insurance system.
