Sweden's first citizenship test will take place in Stockholm on 15 August, with around 1,000 places reportedly already filled.
The paper-based test will contain approximately 60 multiple-choice questions in Swedish and last 90 minutes. It will initially assess knowledge of Swedish society, including public institutions, democratic rights, equality and the country's history.
The Swedish Council for Higher Education has released example questions covering subjects such as the head of state, public services, natural resources and freedom of expression.
Only applicants directed to the test by the Migration Agency can register. The first sitting is a trial examination, and authorities will evaluate its difficulty before determining matters including the final pass threshold.
A separate Swedish-language examination will be introduced later. Passing the test is therefore one route through the new citizenship requirements, not a guarantee that an application will be approved.
