People in Germany are calling for the lowering of the age of criminality after teenagers, as young as 12 and 14 gangraped an 18-year-old woman.
The victim was found in bushes on Friday after she was allegedly gang raped by five young boys in the western city of Mülheim.
Reports are that two of the attackers are 12 while three are 14 years old.
The age offenders who can be prosecuted in Germany is 14 meaning two of the suspects’ behavioural issues will be addressed by the Youth Welfare Office but they will not be arrested or charged through the justice system.
Head of the police force union Rainer Wendt, said they, for years have been calling for the age of criminal responsibility to be lowered in Germany.
The five have all been suspended from school and one 14 year-old has appeared before an investigating judge.
