A 26 year-old woman from Broxburn, West Lothian, has been jailed for abusing her sleeping and drunk friend with a sex toy.
The two had downed a bottle of Prosecco each in November 2017 and the victim woke after half naked and later started recalling what had taken place.
Hayley McConnell has been jailed for 16 months and has to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
McConnell, suffering guilty conscience, was to confess to her victim over text, saying: “I touched you. It was me. I was going to tell you. I’m so ashamed.”
She pleaded guilty to the assault.
The allegations are that she crept into her victim’s room and found the sex toy under her pillow.
Her victim, who can’t be named for legal reasons, woke the next morning to find herself in a “state of undress”.
The complainant admitted that she and her friends had drunk more than a bottle of Prosecco each during the Thursday evening booze session but described herself as being “tipsy” rather than drunk.
However, she also said that after entering a friend’s car to get a lift home she couldn’t recall what happened until she woke the following morning in her bed.
When the victim met McConnell again the next morning, the court heard, the accused asked her how she was feeling and if she could remember anything from the previous night.
The victim found the second part of the question to be particularly odd, but it wasn’t until the next night that she started having flashbacks of the attack.
Following the flashbacks and the peculiar question asked by McConnell the complainer made contact with the accused by text message and asked what had happened.
It was then that McConnell confessed to the attack, revealing her “shame” about her actions.
