Sweden has vowed to go all the way to the finals of the Women’s World cup to win it after their impressive show that saw the Peter Gerhardsson coached side breaking a 25 year-old jinx and dismissed Germany to advance to the World Cup semi-finals.Sweden
Gerhardsson said the team has nothing to fear now and it was now all systems go.
“A good sign is that we are now qualified for the Olympics, which was hanging over our heads for a while. Now we don’t have to worry about it.
“…there is not a single mitochondria in us that is content, we are going to go for it,” he said.
“We have talked about the possibilities here to go far and win every game,” Gerhardsson said.
The team booked a semi-final slot after beating Germany by 2-1.
Germany, the Olympic champions, had not conceded a goal in the tournament until Sweden put two past them.
Sweden came from a goal down and put two past Germany.
Sofia Jakobsson and Stina Blackstenius scored a goal each for Sweden.
The team, bubbling with confidence, will on Wednesday face the Netherlands, who beat Italy 2-0 on Wednesday.
Gerhardsson believes there is plenty more to come from his side.
