Ericsson targets US investment to make 5G radios

Ericsson has set its eyes on building its first fully automated factory in the united States to make radios required to deploy 5G technology.

The Swedish telecoms equipment supplier announced on Wednesday that the plant will be operational next year and will produce advanced antenna system radios for 5G deployments in North America.

The firm’s Chief Executive Officer and president, said the company will invest in the US and alsp continue manufacturing in China and Europe.

“We will continue manufacturing in China, Europe and also the U.S,” he was quoted as saying.

The company will decide on a location after discussions with state and local authorities in the United States.

According to Ericsson, there are putting in a direct investment  of about $100 million, which will kick in during the third quarter of this year.

Ericsson has a research and development site – a software development center – in Austin, Texas.
