Stockholm has lost its bid to host the 2026 Winter Olympics that will now be hosted by Milan-Cortina.
Milan-Cortina got the nod ahead of Stockholm in a vote by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne, Switzerland.
This will be despite a spirited campaign that saw Swedish dispatching a high-powered delegation that included Prime Minister, Stefan Lofven and the Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden to canvass for the support.
It will be 20 years since the last Winter Olympics in Italy, Turin.
Members of the Italy team erupted into chants of “Italia, Italia” after the announcement.
